I had a bit of a yearning to play some HOTT yesterday, and got out a few of my Barsoomian armies.
In the first game the city of Manator (Rider general, 3 x Riders, 6 x Blades and 2 x Shooter) attacked the city of Gathol (Blade general, 4 x Blades, 3 x Riders, 1 x Flier, 2 x Airboats). Manator is on the left:
The main Gatholian force.
Gathol's aerial navy.
The army of Manator. They are not as advanced a nation as Gathol and do not have air-vessels.
Gathol anchored one flank against a crag in order to prevent the numerically superior Manatorian thoat-riders from outflanking them. The airships moved around the crag to attack the Manatorian left. Manator sent their archers to counter this.
Gathol attacked the archers, destroying one of the elements.
The other archer element then proceeded to hold up Gathol's navy for the rest of the game.
Meanwhile Manator's main force crashed into the Gatholian line.
Meanwhile Manator's main force crashed into the Gatholian line.
The results were mixed. Manator's right flank fell back, but elsewhere Gathol retreated, and lost an element, leaving a gap in their line which was rapidly plugged by their mounted reserve.
But Manator cut down the reserve as well, and their riders pressed the Gatholians hard as they exploited the gap in the enemy line.
The lone archer element continued to hold off teh Gatholian navy.
Gathol's left flank was now in complete disarray ...
... a situation which was exploited by the Manatorians.
They destroyed three Gatholian elements in one bound, to win a crushing victory.
In the second game, Manator defended against an attack by Helium (Hero general, 2 x Airboats, 1 x Flier, 6 x Blades). I apologise for the really terrible photos.
Helium attacked out of an area of rocks.

The attack went in, with insufficient PIPs to expand the line.
It didn't matter. John Carter cut his way through the enemy warriors before him, and made straight for the Manatorian commander.
With their commander cut down, the Manatorians were defeated.
Both games were fun and it was nice to have those particular armies out again.
Cool!
