More Games

I have spent the past week playing odd small games of 'Spandau & Lewis' at lunchtime. Mostly they've been of the random threat nature, outlines in numerous earlier posts. This one involved a Morane L - the plane that had the Garros wedges to deflect bullets from the propeller. It was being flown as a single-seater and would encounter a mix of unarmed and machine-gun armed two-seaters.

Two Albatros Bs armed with just small arms, for example.

Stalking them ...

And in for the attack.

The problem is that their speed is as good as that of the Morane L, so once the attacker gets behind them they can pretty much run for safety and not be caught.

In this case the furthest one just ran for home, whilst the other, (who was still within gunnery range) turned to bring its gun to bear more effectively

The Morane tried chasing after the nearest Albatros, but still ended up losing contact with it. And they were the only threat to appear, so it was a short game. The one Albatros was quite badly shot up, but still got away.

This was another game. My Morane lost the German two-seater in a cloud and when it found it again it was too far away to catch.

This was a more conventional scenario; the two-seaters had to recce the villages before returning home, and the Morane could try to stop one of both of them.

Things went well initially, and an Albatros was forced to defend itself rather than try and do its job.

The Morane did a nice job of keeping it from the objective

The other two-seater flew unmolested.

But eventually the Morane ended up fluffing a move roll, and ended up badly out of position, trying to turn back into the fight. The Albatros was able to grab a photo and run for home, with the Morane unable to catch it - again.

This was a rerun of my favourite 'Australians At Beersheba' scenario - two Fokker Eindekkers vs a BE2 and a Martinsyde G100.

The BE2 had a hairy moment ...

It ended in a Turkish victory; they shot down the Martinsyde with a lucky hit on the pilot, and the Australians couldn't level it to a draw by shooting down a Fokker before the scenario ended.

And just to show that it hasn't all just been planes, here's Catherine and I playing 'Cosmos Empires'. which we bought recently.

I've painted some more planes, but they'll be for another post as I haven't taken any pictures yet.
