Six by Six - August

The biggest event for me in August was that I changed one of my games. Again. I'd dropped Black Powder for Scum of the Earth earlier in the year, and played two games of Scum as well. But I decided that the Lion/Dragon Rampant system offered a better source of challenge games, so have swapped it again. That meant that I started the month with two fewer games completed from when I finished July. Not to worry, though, because I then proceeded to knock off four games of The Pikeman's Lament during the month, putting me not on track on track, but ahead of the game.
Since The Pikeman's Lament is the only Six By Six game I've played this month, it's going to have to be my personal, featured game. The fourth games was my favourite; an epic attack on a redoubt in the Great Northern War, which saw the Swedes almost clinch a victory, despite being reduced to their last unit.

I missed a major post last month in which Shaun documented the development of an extremely portable WWII game over a number of years. The report, however, included six games played within the Challenge's timescale. Quite impressive, and an interesting look at how a game is designed and tested, even if just for personal use.

Most people who still seem to be taking part in the challenge seemed to have ticked on nicely this month, so here's a few highlights.

Pete at Grid-based Wargaming completed his fifth set of six games, with a 19th Century ImagiNations battle.

Meanwhile Sean was playing Imperial Skies.

And my final pick for the month is this lovely 54mm game from The Penny Whistle.

Here's the games as they stand at the end of August. One thing I am beginning to think about is whether will be  Six By Six Challenge in 2018. Are people up for it?

  1. Hi KK, I think I'm going to need my selection of "Dystopian Wars" to "Various Spartan Games." Thank for keeping up with this!

  3. I'll be there for 6 x 6 in 2018. It has been a great spur to getting games played and figures painted, as well as learning new rule sets. I'm going to make another change though. With Star Wars Legion out next year I'm going to save my 6 x 6 Star Wars games for 2018. I'll replace them with Pikeman's Lament for 2017. I've already got one played.
