Yesterday it was Thursday, so it was odds on I'd be playing HOTT with Geoff at the Uni club. And that's what I did yesterday.
I took my Barsoomian armies, whilst Geoff had brought some Heroic Greeks.
In the first game Manator faced the Greeks, who had two warband, a hero general, a dragon, two riders and four spears.
The dragon appeared early and was particularly annoying.
Manator's warriors pushed back the Greek spears.
The dragon (actually a manticore) attacked Manator's general.
The Greek's hero general joined the fight, and Manator lost their general. But the Greeks had taken more casualties at this pint, so the battle continued.
But not for long. The dragon dealt with an element of thoat-riders ...
... and so did the Greek general.
I think the Greeks won this 8g-6
We switched to my Martian cloth and I got out the army of Helium. Geoff kept his army mostly the same, but swapped the dragon for a behemoth.
Helium's fleet had some success on my right until the Greek hero got involved.
The two armies prepared to fight.
Helium tore a huge hole in the Greek line.
Meanwhile the Greek general polished off Helium's navy
And with casualties in the centre, that gave the Greeks another win. This game was closer - the Greeks won 12-8. If I'd found a way to destroy his vulnerable behemoth, victory would have been mine.
We set up again, and this time Geoff ran a god instead of the behemoth. Once again the aerial navy started well.
The lines advanced towards each other ...
... and the god turned up. Between them the god and the hero cleaned up Helium's aerial troops.
Helium pushed back the first Greek attack
The god caused trouble in Helium's rear.
And then got bored and went away.
The Greeks slowly wore down Helium's army to win 12-8
Was this “just a bad evening”? Or is there something you can do to improve your success rate? Do you need to re-jig the army composition? Or just improve your dice throwing abilities…? 🎲🎲⚔️
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Geoff
Just poor play on my part, mostly :)
DeleteSounds like a good evening, Kaptain, despite the results (sometimes it just seems to go that way….🎲). The Helium battlemat/cloth is very atmospheric. Nice one 👍🏼
