Cloned

This is all a bit mysterious - there is a website - http://morioergames.info/ - which is a clone of this blog.

Whoever has set it up has even created a version of the header with the blue and pink background. It has every post I've ever made, and includes all of the pages too.

I'm truly mystified.

Why? Why does it exist?

(And this post will be on it as well, which is a bit meta. In fact, it appeared immediately.)

    It may be someone trying to make it appear as though they are a genuine blogger to get away with posting spam?

    1. It's this. I remember (a year or two back) looking for the "Wargaming on a Fridge" post KK mentioned in this post:

      The original link (http://solonexus.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/rally-round-fridge.html) is dead and not on archive.org due to a robots.txt, but lo and behold, it's been duplicated here:
      http://nexus10tablet.blogspot.com/2012/02/rally-round-fridge.html

      Near as I can tell, these blogs duplicate content in an attempt to legitimize themselves, whether as a means to serve ads on the blog proper, or so the account can be used to post spam links elsewhere.

  3. It's especially strange because it says YOU'RE the poster/owner. I bet it's a weird Blogspot issue. Like they miss-linked it. They way phone lines used to get crossed.

    1. I happened to do a search which returned posts from this blog as one of the hits (a common occurrence if I search for certain games), then noticed that the URL wasn't right.

  5. I was wondering if replying to a post there would also reflect back here, but although I initally got to the home page, when I tried to open the "Comments" on this post it got caught in the "no games sites" filter my employers have thoughtlessly installed (Obviously not a problem here...)

  6. Like Tim Ellis I wondered what would happen if I made a comment on the clone blog. I tried to make one ... but although the link seemed to want to work, no comment box appeared.

    It would appear, therefore, that the clone is just copying your blog content (including comments) and is incapable of being updated except via your blog.

    1. Yes, none of the 'active' stuff works, such as comments. It's copying content, but it's not interactive.

  9. I have done some research and someone has gone to alot of effort to hide their identity behind the website. A whois search shows the person that bought the domain name has paid to have their name hidden by whois guard. They may be making money from hidden adverts or something. I would start posting at the top or bottom of each blog this article is from (your_webaddress) if you are reading elsewere it has been stolen!

    1. I tried posting a footer with my web-address in. Whatever process if lifting the posts also changes all urls (even just text) linking here to one linking to their site.

  10. Another thing you can do is contact Google, Bing and the other search engines. Search engines like Google and Bing take copyright infringement very seriously and if you can send them your original work and the offending person’s work, chances are these search engines will remove their content from search and penalize them in the ranking department.     1. Thanks for that - I'll give it a try.

      Mind you, a friend of mine had an issue where someone was stealing pictures from her Flickr stream, then posting them on Flickr as their own. They went one stage further though; after accumulating a nice collection, they contacted Flickr claiming that *she* had breached their copyright, and asking that her stream be taken down!

    2. Hopefully Flickr (in that case) or Google/Blogger (in this case) can see the dates posted and see that it is very unlikely that she/you managed to steal all the content and post it before the other party claiming ownership...

    3. I had a look on Bing, and whilst if I search for the site directly it comes up, 'normal' searches which bring up material from this blog do that - they link to this blog. It looks like Bing either hasn't found the clone yet, or has already dealt with it.

  11. Has anyone considered a parallel universe, its point of intrusion the blogosphere ? Such a phenomenon would probably not allow unrestricted communication, hence the lack of success in responding on the "mirror" blog directly.

    Or if the concept of a parallel universe is just too far out there, what about the 5th Dimension? It's easy to imagine Mr. Mxyzptlk's impish sense of humor at work here.

  12. Sounds very dodgy indeed! If you post something here and delete it does it delete from there too? If not you could have great fun at the expense of the git who's pinching your work...

  14. I had a similar experience with a blog called Creepy Corridor who was just reposting my stuff. I complained to google and the posting stopped with a good amount of my content being deleted, although the blog is still there and still contains some of my stuff. It was a bit different in that it wasn't a total clone like this is, but the idea is probably similar.
