HOTT: Elves vs Arabs

I have been sorting out my figure collections this part week or two, and found a couple of HOTT armies that hadn't seen the light of day for a couple of year - my Hollywood Arabs and my Wild Elves. The former is entirely Peter Pig figures, whilst the latter is a mix of Peter Pig and Demonworld miniatures.

They're both armies that have been in my collection for some time - 20 years or so - and still had my older basing style, so last week I redid their bases to match my current 'One Style Fits Most' look. And, having done that, thought it would be fun to give them both an outing.

The Arabs defended and laid an area of soft sand, a wood and a long ridge, which they got to set up on.

The armies ready for battle:

The Arabs fielded 1 x Blade general, 2 x Hordes, 1 x Cleric, 1 x Sneaker, 2 x Shooters, 1 x Flier and 4 x Riders.

The Wild Elves consist of 1 x Magician General, 1 x Magician, 2 x Shooters and 6 x Warband. The majority of their warband went off on a wide flanking move on their right, which the Arabs countered with some riders and their flying carpets.

The fighting begins.

The Arabs had the longer line, but the Elves extended theirs to counter. In addition the Arabs had attacked the Elves too close to the woods. When the Elves extended their line it put on of their elements in the trees, thus giving them a huge combat advantage over the attacking riders.

The result was that both elements of Arab riders were destroyed.

This left the Arab left flank completely open, and half of their mobile troops gone. The only response for the Arabs was to attack the Elves and try and force a victory before the Elves could exploit their advantage.

The Elven warband made for the Arab stronghold, whilst the flying carpets tried to delay them.

Arabs advancing on the Elves.

Some Elves reached the stronghold but failed to take it. The Arab assassins moved up to support the stronghold.

Fighting in the centre saw the Arab sultan and his bodyguard cut down some Elven archers, although the Arabs had also lost some of their archers to the Elven general.

On the Elven left the rump of the warband were also facing Arab cavalry, but didn't do so well, getting locked into combat with them. The Arabs brought up some infantry and the flying carpets to support the cavalry and the Elves were destroyed.

The Elves continued to fail to take the stronghold, but they did drive off the assassins.

The Elves mad a concerted effort to take the stronghold, but still it resisted them.

In the centre the Elves were reduced to their two magicians and some archers. The Arabs spent a precious bound reorganising their troops.

The second element of Elven archers was cut down.

The Elven magicians were surrounded ...

... but they were still attacking the stronghold.

The defenders of the stronghold were good though. They destroyed the atttacking warband, and that broke the Elven army.

The Elves started well, and were 7-0 up at one stage. But the Arabs turned things around and won it 12-7.

    1. They survived several attacks on their stronghold - in reality they were pretty lucky.

  2. What a turn around. Nice battle report. It’s always good to give the old armies an “airing”.
    Cheers,
