Six By Six - July

Let's get this out of the way from the start; July has been the quietest month in terms of of activity for the Six By Six Challenge since the whole thing began. But maybe that's to be expected; like most projects there is an initial rush of enthusiasm, and then it tends to die off a little. Certainly it's clear that some participants have probably forgotten about it, or are otherwise engaged on other things. Saying that, though, there's still plenty of people forging ahead and looking set to finish their 36 games by the end of the year.

Am I one of them? Well, at the moment I'd say that the answer is 'Yes'. As July draws to a close I'm still ahead of schedule in terms of games played. One of them I will have to concentrate on in August or September, since I'm running it at a wargames show in October. So that will see enough games to complete that part of the challenge. The trickiest one will be my remaining HOTT games, since I set myself the additional challenge of only counting games using new armies. I need to put together two new HOTT armies by the end of the year ...

A HOTT army is my personal featured game for the month; I finished painting a Mound Builder American army for DBA early on in July, but the army was originally put together for HOTT and that how it saw its first games.

On to other people's games.

Strange Aeons is not a game with which I'm familiar; it looks like a kind of Call Of Cthulhu skirmish game, but I'm sure other will put me right (or I could Google it). Anyway, Brian has played a couple of games of it this month, set in a town made up of some very nice looking MDF buildings.

This month also saw Peter finish off his WWII naval campaign. It's worth looking through his 6x6 games, as they have all been campaign-based.

Finally I love the look of this old SPI boardgame, Fall Of Rome, which Shaun Travers is playing. Makes me want to get Solitaire Caesar out again.

  1. Hello Kaptain

I actually replaced Full Thrust (Game 4) with WW2 3x4 (my own WW2 rules to play on a A4 3x4 grid with 6mm bases). I played six games with them and put them all into one long blog post in early July:

    https://shaun-wargaming-minis.blogspot.com.au/2017/07/portable-play-in-document-box-or-very.html

It still only puts me at 15 games, even with July being busy with 8 game reports posted. But still 6 behind schedule.

    1. Bums! You're right. I remember reading it and thinking 'I must update the list'. And then I didn't ;)

I'll do it in the morning.

  2. Thanks for the feature! You've got the basic premise right. One side plays as the Threshold, a US government agency tasked with dealing with the occult and eldritch forces. The other side plays as the Lurkers, which are those occult and eldritch forces - deranged humans, undead, strange creatures, aliens, daemons, etc. You can play one-of-games, or campaigns, which is what Kevyn and I are doing.

  3. After a couple of months' off doing "other things" I'm back in the Challenge and just posted 3 games/sessions. I'm now only 6 behind where I need to be but, hey, that's what summer holidays are for!
