HOTT 52 - Week 45 - William Walker vs Flash Gordon

I'm not sure why but the fact that it was Week 45 of my HOTT 52 project suggested this particular pairing; the militia followers of a corrupt and utterly insane president, William Walker, against an heroic alliance of warriors trying to take back control of their planet.

Anyway, well-known filibuster William Walker has seized control of Mongo. United behind Earth-hero Flash Gordon, the various races of Mongo have united to oppose Walker's insanity and take their planet back. Walker moves to attack them before they can mobilise against him.

Flash Gordon ended up defending, forming a short line coverd by rough going, aerials an the threat of lurkers on one flank. Walker's army is not that mobile, so he formed up for a frontal attack, trusting in a core of warband to carry the day and covering his flanks with hordes on one side and his helicopter on the other.

The Mongo Rebels.

The forces of evil President Walker.

Openign moves saw both armies advance, but Flash ordered Prince Vultan wide out on his left to cover against the helicopter.

As Walker's forces advanced, Vultan led his Hawk Men into the attack ...

... but he was slain, and the Hawk Men fell back.

As Walker's forces continued to advance, Flash's rocketship flew overhead, and moved into their rear. It came under fire from Walker's sharpshooters, and was forved to keep its distance for a while.

Flash ordered a charge along the line ...

... going into single-combat with President Walker.

Walker's forces were thrown back. This was the time he needed to rally and inspire his troops. Instead, throwing a '1' for PIPs, he chose to spend the next bound writing and sending deranged telegrams, whilst hs army wavered in disarray.

Flash seized his chance and pressed the attack, supported by the rocketship and his friends Dr Zarkov and Dale Arden.

Attacked on all sides Walker was defeated. The despot had been overthrown.

A final view of the battle.

Walker's warband were, in fact, beginning to get the upper hand in the centre. With no PIPs required to keep them in the attack they were pressing forward against Prince Thun's Lion Men, and would have broken through the line in the next bound or so.

Flash's win was acheieved by the combination of an airboat from the rear - always a classic - and a sneaker pushing through an enemy element in order to provide a useful overlap.

  1. It's strange how the dice gods sometimes show their favour SO appropriately!

Spent yesterday on a solo game of Eldritch Horror. Despite losing three investigators the desperate struggle ended with an insane, corrupt, vicious abomination, (No ... green and tentacled but yes with a very curious 'hairstyle') being forced back to the outer darkness.

I am tempted to try joining The Miniatures Page just to make that post for however briefly.
