Broadside!

Next weekend Caesar is playing in a 'Broadside: Empires of Steel' tournament in Canberra, so we let him have a practice game this week so he could remind himself of the rules. It ended up with two players a side, with Caesar and I taking a French squadron against Colin and Darren's British ships. It was a straight head to head engagement.

Both sides had a flotilla of destroyers, a cruiser screen and some bigger ships. In the case of the British is was a couple of battlecruisers, whilst the French had some battleships. I got to play the battleships.

I didn't really keep track of the details of the fight. We whizzed around shooting at each other basically. Here's the French cruisers.

Caesar did an epic torpedo run and all but sank HMS Invincible. Great work!

He did another epic run on HMS Warrior, which would have been truly spectacular had he not done it with a ship that had already fired off all of its torpedoes.

He then proceeded to plonk one of his cruisers in front of my lead battleship, causing a collision. The cruiser sank (from British gunnery - not the collision).

I tried to make the best of an awkward position that saw me almost collide with HMS Caroline.

Anyway, at that point we called an end to the proceedings. The French had sunk one of the bigger British ships (an objective) but had also lost a couple of destroyers and most of the cruiser screen. The battleships, powerful as they were, would now be up against half of the British destroyers and some cruisers with all of their torpedoes waiting to be used. I don't think it would have ended well.

Anyway, Caesar got his practice and one hopes he's learned a few lessons from this game.
