For the cavalry I'm thinking of Pistol-Armed (Must stand, cannot counter-charge, not penalised) and Conventional (Penalised if it stands, may counter-charge). Pistol-armed cavalry as a broad group works OK in the rules since it can just be assumed to be the way they fight; instead of a furious charge with swords you fire pistols as you go in, but the game results are the same.Kaptain Koboldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17082772546044655044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2570039711549278262.post-65541742836410214802017-03-28T09:57:24.897+11:002017-03-28T09:57:24.897+11:00Yeah, that seems to make perfect sense for the pur...Yeah, that seems to make perfect sense for the purpose.

I have some notes someone submitted for a more vigorous cavalry pursuit mechanic that I'm testing out. If that makes it in (at least as an option) obviously the good prince Rupert will need a trait to force him to chase after the parliamentarians :)

Your suggestion for cavalry standing and shooting might do wonders for periods where pistol armed cavalry is the norm.Weaselhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05873440251698488032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2570039711549278262.post-71021796432897960872017-03-28T09:52:42.909+11:002017-03-28T09:52:42.909+11:00I should have said in the main post:

Assault and Formed were marked with counters, and I assumed the footprint of the unit did not change (since they are on single bases anyway), but that the formation represented a change in the relative positions of the pike and shot within the unit.Kaptain Koboldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17082772546044655044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2570039711549278262.post-24223328863292389282017-03-28T09:50:36.712+11:002017-03-28T09:50:36.712+11:00It seemed OK. It was certainly no worse than some of the other rules I've used :)

If I was to fiddle with it I'd possibly add a trait to allow some cavalry to stand and shoot when charged by opposing cavalry, instead of the counter-charge rule. This could simply be simulated by having some cavalry using the counter charge in the rules, whilst others *must* stand, but are not penalised. Also some kind of compulsory pursuit for Royalist cavalry. I think pike/shot ratios can be dealt with by giving +1/-1 on firing/close combat.

I think it's tweakable for simple ECW gaming, certainly.Kaptain Koboldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17082772546044655044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2570039711549278262.post-55944555041441150932017-03-28T05:07:06.733+11:002017-03-28T05:07:06.733+11:00Oh, how did you find it for pike&shot?
